        You may order vital records online with a credit card for an additional fee through Vitalchek (615) 741-0778. If you have an immediate or emergency need for a certified copy and are willing to pay an additional fee of $10.00 for expedited service, you may telephone or fax your request and charge it to your Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express credit card. Your certificate or other response will be mailed to you within one working day of the day received.

        To inquire about records of events from early years that are not maintained by the Office of Vital Records, contact the Tennessee Library and Archives.

        The Memphis Public library now has a large portion of the TN death records at the library located at 3300 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38111, phone (901) 415-2700.

      Index to Tennessee County Vital Records Offices

        Within Tennessee, many county health departments issue birth certificates. All county health departments issue death certificates for deaths which occurred in that county within the past three years, and a few county health departments keep death records for longer periods of time.

        Marriage certificates are available from the county clerk who issued the marriage license. Divorce records may be obtained from the clerk of the court which granted the divorce.
